Hs-126 crash

Hello,

I'm looking for some more information about a crash of a Hs-126. This what i know : Crashed 10 may 1940 at Roermond. Hs-126 8.(H)/51 . 2 missing pilots. Totaly destroyed (Bei Roermond, 100% Bruch, 2vm)

Any information is appreciated.

Kind regards
Jeroen

Re: Hs-126 crash

Jeroen,

This one comes from the well-known list of Brongers, and is so far a big question mark.
To start AufklärungsGruppe 51 did not exist in 1940 (I think never ever did), so this is at best a typo. The only Aufkl.Gr with up to 8 Staffeln was LG2, where 7 and 9./LG2 were reconnaissance units indeed active over Holland and Belgium. Only 9.(H)/LG2 was equipped with Hs126 (and more).
Next, Roermond was almost exactly the boundary between the 6. Armee moving into Belgium and the 18. Armee moving into Noord Brabant.
For any of these units 3.(H)/12, 4.(H)/22, 1.(H)/23 and 4.(H)/23 were active, but none of these names ressembles 8.(H)/51.
The closest actual loss you'll find in the lists of Peter Cornwell is an aircraft of 2.(H)/41 that was hit by Dutch anti-aircraft fire over Nederweert, wounding the pilot (?) Uffz Ringpfeil. But this aircraft was not lost although it might have flown back east towards Roermond to reach German lines.
So I am also interested in any clarification of this report.

Reagrds, Pieter

Re: Hs-126 crash

Hello Pieter,
Thank you for your reply. So it's a bit of a mystry.
I know about a Storch that landed near Roermond, on the other side of the river Maas (west bank). It landed there safely.
I think that's the one your refering to.

Anyway any new info is always appreciated

Regards Jeroen
