Raid on Schweinfurt on February 24th, 1944
 

Hi all!
Need your help. Who can tell me exactly how many B-17 has been dispatched on February 24th, 1944 during the raid on Schweinfurt deep in the heart of Germany to cripple the ball bearing industry, how many of these B-17 has bombed Schweinfurt and how many aircrafts has been lost on the raid on Schweinfurt?
Living south of Schweinfurt and doing investigations about the bomb war in WW2 in my area.

According to Freeman's Mighty Eighth War Dairy, the 1st Bomb Division dispatched 266 B-17s to the Schweinfurt raid with 238 effective. They had 11 losses.

Hi Norbert.
Being very pedantic, 297 aircraft took off, 266 were dispatched, and 235 bombed Schweinfurt. 2 A/c bombed T/O's. Nearly 4,000,000 Leaflets were also dropped. Feel free to send me an email if you want the breakdown of aircraft operating, by Groups and Combat Wings, as I have the mission details of all the 1st Bomb. Division Units involved.
