Ju88 fuselage cross section
I got a Revell 1:32 Ju88A-1 kit a few monthe ago.
Good kit, but I have a quistion. The fuselage of the kit is "edged" just above the wing. I've never seens such a "edged" photo before. Revell researched the restored U4+TK, and I looked for the photo from http://www.ju88.net/ , but I can't find a photo to decide whether the fuselage cross section of the kit is accurate or not. |
Re: Ju88 fuselage cross section
I haven't seen the actual kit yet, just pictures. However there are quite a few photos around showing Ju 88 fuselages with wings removed. The basic wing attachment points were "socket" fasteners and the wing skin butted up to the fuselage. Many aircraft of this vintage used a non-structural fairing strip to aerodynamically seal any gap and smooth air flow transition between the fuselage and wing. Most drawings I have (but not all) show this strip on both the top and bottom surfaces of the wing. Structurally, IMHO it is not really part of either. I hope this answers your question.

Thank you ArtieBob,
I'm wondering about the line on the attached file. (Original picture is from http://www.hyperscale.com/images/ju88a132dw_2.jpg) If the line exists, 1:32 modellers can feel happy, but 1:48 (dragon) and 1:72 (hasegawa/zvezda/italeri) modeller might not... |
Re: Ju88 fuselage cross section
Mr. Ishigaki,
This were metal plate (skin) joints overlapping and thus correct, usually/often filled in with red putty (perhaps should be smoothed slightly down as less than 2-3 mm in real 1:1 size (or slightly filled in) whilst doing serious modeling?), but basically the horizontal ŽlineŽ was the joint between upper and lower half. Good photos of fuselages in construction jigs can be seen in Aero Detail No.20 ŽJu 88Ž P.70 (English + Japanese text). Best regards ed |

Do you mean the yellow line around the fuselage? If you do mean this then it is correct, it's part of the unit markings for KG 54. I asked this question myself over on LEMB and several members kindly sent me photographic proof. Much easier to reproduce in 1/32nd scale :D Best Regards Chris |

Thank you ed!
I'll try to find the book, perhaps somewhere in the chaotic pile of books in my room. |
