Unusual Bf 109 cockpit assembly

Can you help to clear the unusual cockpit assembly - maybe a camera mounted on a Bf 109?

As far as I know, it is a Bf 109 (G-2/G-6) from 4./JG 51, showing H.E. Bob (left) and Borchers in the Reichsverteidigung, winter 1943.

TIA,
Horst

It is a camera.

You can see opening in the fairing, the film drum, what looks like a multiple (three) lens type camera?

Thank you Ruy, I believe the same.

...

FYI, something like a handheld 35mm Arriflex Cine-cam. It did have a lensrevolver for upto three switchable lenses.
A "zoom"-lens was not yet invented in those days...
