Short Stirling

Hi all,

I represend a foundation in The Netherlands doing research after the airwar 1940-1945 called Aircraft Recovery Group 1940-1945. www.arg1940-1945.nl
Recently a driving-motor of the landing gear of a Short Stirling bomber was found by a fisherman in the IJsselmeer.
Connected to the engine was a peace of material of the fuselage. In this peace of material was a round stamp. This stamp had on top AN4 and bottom NS.
We will do an investigation to the identety of this plane. Can anybody help withe identity or meaning of this stamp?
Thanks.

Harm, I cannot remember if I talked to you, or a collegue of you at the museum. Can you provide me with a photo of the stamp? I am currently on a military exercise, but will forward the picture to a friend of mine who can most likely tell you what the stamp means. I have the feeling it is an inspection stamp, but if it is specific to a certain factory, then we can maybe narrow down the likely airframes. Danny
