Missing pilot remains found...but WAST will not recognize??
 

Many years ago, a friend of mine dug up the remains of an Me109G-6 flown by Oblt. Eberhard Sickert, Stab II..JG 11, W. Nr. 412337 (Grüne 2). He was lsited as missing 26.12.1944. During the dig they found his Dog Tag which confrimed 100% the pilot and of course, the wreck.

On a second dig, he recovered a Fw 190-A8 from Kurt Nuzzle of JG 41.1.45, agian the Dog Tag was found.

Apparantly, WAST was not willing to change either pilot's status (from missing to KIA), as they did not consider finding the aircraft AND the pilots ID tag as proof.

Does this make any sense???

Was curious if people care anymore?

I don't know were you get your info on Eberhart Sickert but I recovered that pilot ,only small remains of the scull were found and his dog tag that toghether with the fragments were handed over to the german cemetary close to bastogne,
later on we were invited to the official burial at Lommel Belgium were he has a official cross with his name !!!
and i never recovered a FW 190 i don't know where you get all this info but thats the reality.I have even still pictures somewere from the funeral , toghether with former Jg 11 members who joined the funeral , there was even a small article in german Jagerblatt about this solving of Eberhart Sickert.

All the info of Sickert was given to me by CV. He said he and a friend recovered a Fw190 and WAST would not recognize the pilot as being found, even though the tag was found. CV also mentioned the same happened with Sickert.

But, nonetheless, WAST apparently would not change the report on either pilot (even though a burial was done), and it still is listed as missing.

Uffz. Kurt Nüssle of 9./JG 11 has a grave (Lommel Block 57, Grave 13). This was properly done in 1993-1995 after the information was finally handed over to the WAST. The actual recovery of human remains and the dogtag was done in 1983-1985. What happened between 1985 and 1995 is not something for this board. However, the WASt is not solely responsible for the fact that it took almost 10 years between actual recovery of the human remains and final formal identification.

I am not sure why CV tells you that both pilots are still MIA. That is not true.
