Italian Cant Z.1007 shot down by Beaufighter I F of 46th Squadron

Reading Byron's Fight in the Aegean sea post, I remembered an incident about an Italian CANT Z.1007. The a/c was of 30° Stormo Bombardamento Terrestre based at Maritza (Rhodes), and it was shot down by Beaufighter I F of 46th Squadron (Sq. Ldr. G.A. Reid – Based at Idku) on 16 June 1943, off the Turkish coast. The pilot Ten. Col. Pilota Grimaldo Casalbuovo managed to make a crash landing very close to the shore. Unfortunately Aviere Scelto Inneguale was killed during the attack.

The crew was as the following:

Ten. Col. Pilota Grimaldo CASALNUOVO Commander of 90° Gruppo
S. Ten. Pilota Salvatore MARINO
Serg. Magg. Motorista Nello MEZZABOTTA
Sergente Armiere Antonio FUSCO
Aviere Scelto Motorista Armando INNEGUALE
Aviere Scelto Marconista Alberto TREBBI

Two of the crew members Serg. Magg. Motorista Nello MEZZABOTTA and Sergente Armiere Antonio FUSCO were seen to climb out of the aircraft carrying the dead body of Scelto Inneguale on the wing. However both went missing afterwards.

All the above given info was provided by Gianmaria Spagnoletti.

I would like to know if anybody have more details about that incident, especially from the Beaufighter I F of 46th Squadron side.

Regards,

batur
