KG77 knight cross holder photo

Hello,

A member at BGR is looking for the names of two knight cross holders on an original photo in his collection. They probably were from KG77. He has a photo of them at BGR.

I have posted already some potential names but they do not seem to match with the names on the backside of the original photo. Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Roger

The one on the right is Leutnant Karl-Heinz Greves, RK 07.12.42.
I publish a couple of photographs of him and his crew in the forthcoming issue of Aéro-Journal (as well as a very short bio).

Having checked our database for Rk holders whose names start with "Sei" and are associated with bombers yields only:

SEIFFERT, Heinz. (DOB: 18.12.20 in Krietern/Schlesien).
31.12.43 Oblt. and Staka 3./KG 3, awarded the Ritterkreuz for destroying 37 tanks, 132 trucks, 77 railway cars, 7 AA positions and 2 railway bridges.

He had no association with KG 77!
In fact in late 43 or early 44 II./KG 77 (deduced from code 3Z+_C) and I./KG 3 were not even near each other, so they could not be “visiting” each other.
Furthermore, a search shows that there were no known officers associated with KG 77 whose Names start with “Sei”.
Conclusion: the inscription on the back of the pic is misleading.

Anyone out there recognize their faces?

Regarding “Greves”: We have him as:

GREVE, Karl-Heinz (Carl-Heinz). (DOB: 17.10.20 in Münster/Westfalen).
02.05.42 Lt., awarded DKG, 3./KGr. 606.
07.10.42 Lt., awarded the Ritterkreuz for sinking a destroyer and 51,000 BRT of enemy shipping, as well as severely damaging an aircraft carrier and a cruiser.
01.04.43 in I./KG 77, promo to Oblt.
c.07.43 Oblt., appt Kdr. II./KG 77 (to 20.07.44).

This looks like this could be one of them.

Ahhh... but I have seen the holy grail! And it is painted RLM 76 all over with a large Mickey Mouse on the side, there is a familiar pilot in front of it and it has an Erla Haube!

Andreas I don't know what you take at breakfast, but I want the same!

Chris

PS - And yes, that's Geismann.

Dear all,

Thank you for your comments. Larry (who owns the original photo) has found another photo of Geismann that confirms that one of the KC holders was him. Thank you for identifying the other one.

I have posted a corresponding comment at BGR.

Regards,
Roger
