FF ObLt. Geitz (crash with GenObt Hube 1944)
 

Hi everyone!

Many of you already know the story of Generaloberst Karl-Valentin Hube who died 21.4.1944 in a crash of his aircraft near Ainring.

Most "sources" I've seen so far are giving only short summaries in a few lines of this incident, but partly with absolutely different details:

- no survivors
- one survivor ambassador Walter Hewel who was either heavily burned or just had hematomes
- several officers died
- only his (Hubes) black metal hand was recovered from the wreckage
- Hube was lying busted in the cockpit while the other passengers were just light casulties
- The pilot was a Luftwaffe officer
- The plane was on its route via Breslau back to Berlin, from where it came the day before

- a letter from the FF Geitz was sent from Berlin the day before; unfortunately no Fieldpostnumber

- At BA/MA the aircraft is named as "Regierungsflugzeug CDQV" and some sources say it was either a He-111 or a Ju-52. (see gyges.dk -> RL 2/II Bd. III - 351)



Does any of you has more information about the aircraft, its crew esp. FF ObLt Geitz, the "unit" or the other passengers?

Do you know if the casulties (beside Hube and Hewel) been recovered and/or been burried – and where?

CD+QV was a JU 52 Wnr. 10075.

I believe it was Generaloberst Hans-Valentin Hube not Karl.

The funeral account of Hube mentions burial of his 'remains' so perhaps more than his artificial hand/lower arm was found

Was Walter Hewel present? I have number of biographies of him, none mention a plane crash or any kind of physical disfiguremant. He died 03-05-45 committed suicide during the 'bunker' escape.

Sounds like you're following up a conspiracy theory??

Sure, it was HANS-Valentin Hube - thanx for the correction!


I thought, it's "proven" that Hewel was a surviving casualty of this accident?

It's mentioned in Goebbels diaries, James Preston O'Donnells "The Bunker" and Jürgen Thorwalds "Die ungeklärten Fälle".


I just noticed, that there are already some conspiracy theories out there regarding this incident, right? But no details known to me.


The background on my request is the fact, that the 85-year-old sister of FF Geitz has no information where his grave is! Of course she tried to get Information from WAST, Volksbund etc. - but without any success!

There's no fieldpost number and no unit known. It's just confirmed, that he was the pilot of this aircraft and that he died. That's all!


In know, what happended to the Luftarchiv 1945, but it looks strange to me, that there's only a few information avaible. With Hube and Hewel two important persons were involved in this accident - shouldn't be there some more information on the aircraft its personel and passengers?
