Assume these are Yak-3's and Spitfire V's of the Yugoslav Air Force.

Nice crashed photo of a Russian LaGG-3 and a airworthy MiG-3

Not Yak-3s. Note the under-nose oil cooler intake. They look like late production Yak 1s, what used to known as Yak 1bs in Western literature.

Graham,

After having the advantage of the library at home, you are correct. I would have expected Yak-3's or Yak-9s in 1944-45 but the photo is of neither.

Correct that they are the Yak-1b which to me seems to be a bit more unusual for this period.
