JGr 200 Pilots

A friend's father was a pilot in JGr 200 shot down and captured. His name was Rudolf Eyerer. I believe he was flying a Bf 109G-6 when shot down. Believe he was doing a "check ride" when he was jumped. I believe he was originally an instructor instead of one of the senior students in the group.

I was looking for anything available. A/C side number or werk nummer. Possible photo of the aircraft. I know it was a difficult period and records were lost. This is my first post, but reading through several of these threads, it's evident you all know where to find unique information.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Carl

There are some casualty records for JG 200 but this name is not among the ones I have. However I do have evidence that there were other losses from the unit for which names are lacking.

I also have some pilots' names from 1. and 2./JG 200 as remembered by Uffz. Walter Lang. The nearest to Eyerer is "Fehrer". Lang did not always remember names correctly though.

I am sorry I can't help more because this unit interests me a lot.

Like Nick, I have some a/c w/o names, but they all seem to have been captured during the race across France in 1944. The only listed POW I have is:

Bf 109G-6, 412421, Cöster, Uffz. Walter, 1./JGr.200, gelbe12 +, 14-Jul-44, POW after Luftkampf with U.S. bombers., Frappé, La LW face au débarquement allié, p.284, 323, Chateauneuf-de-Galaure 30km nördlich Romans.

The name is not even close and note that it says after fight with US Bombers. Frappé does not list his source, but he is normally very reliable. Other losses with names are listed as MIA or KIA. Are you certain about the name and POW status?

All I could find was a K report for Uffz Walter Lang of 1/J.Gr.200 shot down and made POW 16-8-44. This states three Bf109's of the unit took off from Avignon East to escort a Fw190 engaged on a photo.recon. mission. Near St. Raphael the formation was attacked by 14 Thunderbolts and Lang made a belly landing with combat damage at 1300hrs. The report also notes this was the first time that J.Gr.200 had been reported in operations.
No K reports for a Rudolf Eyerer in the ones I have.

1. I take Frappé's source to be Namentliche Verlustmeldungen. I have a JG 200 loss list which J. Richard Smith dug out for me years ago and which I presume to have been compiled from the same source by a German researcher (it's in German). Against Cöster's name is a hand written note "Banden P__, zurück" ("Gangs … back"). Can't read the middle word but the implication is that he came down in a Resistance-held area but later returned to his unit.

2. I'm sure about Walter Lang's survival: his two interrogation reports that I have are a bit of a clue (unless the Allies conducted a séance, of course!).
