Looking for details of Pilot and aircraft of Tuskegee Airman-crashed Lake Lesina, Italy 1944
Gentlemen and ladies, I hope you may be able to help me track down the name of a pilot of the 332nd Tuskegee Airmen and maybe Serial number of the Aircraft with some sketchy details, but they are all I have and I apologise in advance for maybe requesting 'a miracle'!
The pilot whose name I am searching for was seen to crash-land his P-51B or C, into Lake Lesina, Italy, home of the 325th Fighter Group, The Checkertail Clan, in the period between May 1944 and November 23rd 1944. The pilot was apparently slow-timing his P-51, when he got disorientated and with light running out, he tried to make his landing at Lesina, but misjudged the slope of the runway and skidded into the Lake, resulting in a large explosion. Incredibly, the pilot walked (swam) away from the wreckage and suffered a deep cut to his forehead. I cannot offer any more details, but I know that if anyone may be able to help, it's you folk on this forum, as you have helped me many times before! |
