Squadrons had official photographers. What happened to the images after the war?

Just wondering what on earth happened to all the images taken by the official squadron photographer's after the war.

I understand some were 'liberated' by pilots, but most ended up in crates and shipped back to the US....never to be seen again?

Is there any starting point to be able to track down any of these images that hopefully will not be lost forever?

Of particular interest to me is the 325th FG, but where would the photos taken by the USAAF possibly be located?

Thanks for any advice, cheers, MP.

You remember that place they took the Ark in "Rauders of the Lost Ark"? ;)

Most photos stayed with the unit as it was demoblilized and shipped back to the states. Many of these units evolved into other designations or went inactive. There is a very active 325th FG Association. I suggest you Google it and ask them.

When the 25th BG Rcn, Watton, England, was dissolved in 1945, their photo library went under disbursement among anyone wishing negatives and pictures. Everyone grabbed what they could. Absolutely NOTHING from the library, including both negatives and colour cine motion picture documentaries, was transfered to the USA.
