Looking for Info on a Liaison Pilot
 

I'm researching the history of a liaison pilot ( S/ Sgt. John L. Scala , 32 389 401). U.S. Army Air Corps records appear to indicate the Sgt. Scala was KIA in Dec. 1943, however other information suggesting that he survived and was transferred to northern Europe as a liaison pilot. He was later KIA on a photo reconnaissance mission over or near Luxemburg in 1944.

Any suggestions on places to look or any information specific to Sgt. Scala would be greatly appreciated.

The only other service man with similar name I can find is PFC John P Scala 32848811 but I can't see what date he was killed, what unit. His remains were returned for burial in New York so he is not listed on the ABMC site as above.

NARA records from www.wwiimemorial.com show both men KIA.

Footnote.com gives (a) John L. Scala in connection with the crash of B-17E 41-9016.

On Joe Baugher's website it says: 41-9016 (68th RG, 16th RS) crashed in early hours of Dec 6, 1943 in Peni mountain near Mediterranean Sea at
NE of Spain between Roses Bay and Breus Cape due to weather and probable
navigation error. All 12 onboard killed. MACR 1414 lists the serial number
as 41-9106

Information on lost liaison planes
 

As a followup question to my previous posting I was wondering if there are web or other resources on liaison planes lost over Europe. I'm familiar with the Missing Aircrew Reports so any other sources would be much appreciated.
