W/C Douglas Grice , France 1940
Hello gentlemen ,
On June 8 , 1940 P/O D.H.Grice 32 Squadron crash-landed in Normandy after a combat vs He111s . I have pictures of what is possibly wreckage of Hurricane P3353 but I would appreciate Grice's account , especially where he crash-landed and did he set fire to his plane ? Thank you , Zorglub. |
Re: W/C Douglas Grice , France 1940
Hi Zorglub,
A note on Pilot Officer D.H. Grice from R.A.F. Biggin Hill by Graham Wallace reprint 1959 Publ Putnam & Co. Ltd. Pages 127-130 cover 8 June 1940 for Number 32 Squadron : "Grice had crash-landed in a field not far from Rouen where he met a chilly reception from survivors of an artillery unit...sheltering in a wood. They had been bombed and machine-gunned for more days than they could remember without once seeing an R.A.F. machine." Mr. Wallace notes that Grice returned to his squadron three days later. A small bit of information for your research. Pyker |
