Mosquito PZ-314 21 Squadron
 

Hello,

I,m looking for info about Mosquito PZ-314 21 squadron.
the plane crashed on 2-2-1945 at Susterseel-Germany.
a small village at the Dutch/German border.
2 crewmembers where killed.

Had engine problems and crashed at Ophoven, 1½ km SW of Sittard, 23.45h on 2/3 February 1945. W/C Ivor Gordon Easton "Daddy" Dale and F/O K.A. Hacknett both KIA, Dale C/O 21 Sqdn. (Info from Henk Welting) Dale was aged 39 when he died.

Just a small correction: NAV/OBS was F/O Kenneth Arthur Hackett ( 34 years old ) NOT Hacknett.
QUESTION: Which was the code of that particular aircraft YH-D ( D-for Dog )?

Gents,
Consider to review my info given on the crashlocation of Mosquito PZ314.
My info at that time came from:

A - Air Britain Serials PA100 - PZ999:
Abandoned on night intruder over "Netherlands".

B - "En nooit was het stil............" author Gerrit J. Zwanenburg, page 534:
Crashed near Ophoven.

PZ314 is also mentioned in the List of aircraft losses WW2 SGLO (Studiegroep Luchtoorlog = Studygroup Air War 1939-1945) with the location Ophoven.

In the said area are an Ophoven in Belgium, one in The Netherlands and also one in Germany !

The crew lies buried in the Sittard War Cemetery and explainable because the crash location was within already liberated territory.

Now I've more info on the Mosquito:

C - "2nd TAF" (Shores/Thomas) on page 412:
Hit by flak, crashed W of Aachen (what's in Germany).

D - "Duel in de wolken" author the late Ron Pütz (a former member of the SGLO and co-author of the book "Bodenplatte (1-1-1945)" who sadly died at a too young age, in his first book on page 267:
Crashed Süsterseel (Germany). !!

Süsterseel, Germany - about 5 km E from the centre of Sittard - may be correct. Also will talk about with the coordinator of the "Dutch List of Aircraft Losses 1939-1945".
