Re: night fighter claims 8/9 augurst 1944

thank you peter, as I live in new zealand it is impossable for me to axcess that data. ,the reason for my interest being the final item of my research into the downing of a SOE Halifax. this aircraft was downed on the night of 8/9 aug '44 near St Quinton northen france, the time was 0230 (english war time ) I had thought it could have been shot down by Hans Todt flying a ME109, but we have reason to believe
that it could have been a JU88 that was in the area. Would Drunkler from 1/NG5 or Duttman from 3/NG4 be flying such an aircraft. Also about the times noted for the action, could they be local time or german war time. It looks like both pilots claimed a 4 engined bomber but I can not read the area , so help is needed. thank you dennis

Would the SOE Halli have been at bomber height?

Re: night fighter claims 8/9 augurst 1944

no the soe was very low in fact it was hit at the drop zone all killed...... my guess . less than 1000ft(300M) It was comming in ........so payload drops at 650ft the aircraft in front of it dropped at that hight and observed the Hali get hit operation bob53. dennis

I can help with the location codes in your original post, however can you say which St. Quentin the Halli was lost at? There's rather a lot of St. Quentin's on the map of France...

Re: night fighter claims 8/9 august 1944

I have just reread the first Hali pilots report and he said the flash of gunfire he saw was at about 2000feet and then he saw the other aircraft fall to the ground does that make it easier to understand ..... dennis

Re: night fighter claims 8/9 august 1944

Hi Again:

The location is well away from that given for the two NF pilots in the original posts.

Could be a claim by JG 301 I suppose, but I don't have any information about same. So far as I know, they generally operated well above 2,000 feet.

I wonder if one should consider friendly fire as a possibility? I've nothing however which matches.

Re: night fighter claims 8/9 august 1944

thank you for your help so maybe I am back to Hans Todt who made a hali claim on the 9th but at 0030 he was with IJG301 but there does not seem to be much imformation about it, a JU88 was seen in the area and thought to have brought the A/C down , I was told Todt was flying a ME109. I don't think friendly fire would be an option does anyone have any records from IJG301 ?
