Re: Unit info : U4+??

Hello John

I am not an expert but I believe that KG 30 may have briefly held the letters U4 in 1940. However it may be that the code belongs to Erprobungsgruppe 4 certainly a Do 17P-1 carried U4+BK in 1939.

Yes is it possible this is early markings for KG 30 but I wonder if this group was a kind of special group like Kgr 100 Pathfinders was.

Re: Unit info : U4+??

Hi,

U4 was ErgKgr4
It was advanced training unit, which was created at the end of September 1939 from elements of I./KG30, 7./FBK KG27, I/Lehrgruppe Ju 88 in Greifswald. One month later it was redestignated to ErgKGr4, allocated to Luftflotte 4 and given code markings: U4. In November 1939 it had 10 Ju 88 planes and 29 crews undergoing training. Apparently due to shortage of Ju 88 on 20.2.40 also 5 Do 17M and 11 Ju 87 planes were on hand.

Hi,

I found it under 17.4.40 but I have no information that somebody was killed or wounded. It belonged to I./KG30, W.Nr. 0119.

Re: Unit info : U4+??

Maybe it is a mission impossible to find this information?
The plane went thru the ice around 17. April 1940 so I think this airmen was wounded or killed around that time.

Hi probarly rest here at a cemetary in Trondheim and I am now sorting any KIA in this time area , a unforgiven job..have about 50 names on a list right now.
The job after the sorting of names are to find out what they did, if they were army og airmen ...

Thanks Robert, you have been of great help.

Cheers
John Fredrik
