Re: Lancaster ED-737 467 Squadron
Joseph's casualty file at the Australian National Archives site refers to Oberkruechten, Germany.

Re: Lancaster ED-737 467 Squadron
Michel, why the interest? I live about 30-40 minutes south of Niederkruechten. I might be able to help and request a check in the local archives. Danny

Re: Lancaster ED-737 467 Squadron
Hi Danny,
I,m doing research after airplanes who crashed in and around my village in WWII in a circle about 15 miles of my place. I found on a site that this plane crashed at Braunsrath-Germany. Braunsrath is a small village about 3 miles of Waldfeught-Germany(a village on the Dutch border). Someone says Oberkruchten? If you can help......... Michel |
Re: Lancaster ED-737 467 Squadron
I've as a more exact location Lammertzweg (name of a street) near Oberkrüchten. Also ten civilians were killed in this incident.

Re: Lancaster ED-737 467 Squadron
Michel,
I'm also doing some research on this lancaster. 3 crew survived...The Skipper called John Binnie, who was later awarded the DFM for his courage on a raid three days earlier. He was born in Brisbane, Australia.... His 2 Air Gunners also survived the encounter...Sergeants Doan (RCAF) and Lancake. The aircraft was shot down after being attacked by Manfred Meurer, who claimed 4 victories this night, including a relative of mine in another lancaster. I've just requested a "Casualty File" from the Australian Archives and this will be available for access in about three weeks time. The details include the site of Oberkruechten as the crash site... Thanks and all the best.... Andrew. |
