Ju88 from 10./NJG3 lost on 11/4/44

Gentlemen,

I am looking for any info possible on a Ju88 night fighter from 10./NJG3 which got lost on 11 April 1944 near Bärwalde. Crew was consisting of Fritz Wilkening, Walter Oswald and Kurt Hohberger.

I have the info that this a/c undertook a daytime missions against US heavies in the Berlin area that day. My source states that this Ju88 took off from Welzow (near Cottbus), but this is hard to believe as 10./NJG3 was based in Denmark during most of 1944.

So is there any additional info on this loss - Werknummer, tactical markings, home base?

Cheers,
Christian

10/NJG 3 was only stationed in Denmark untill end of february-beginning of march 1944 were it joined the rest of IV/NJG 3 in Schleswig-Holstein area.

Just viewed the "Namentliche Verlustmeldung" same as John and Jörn, take off and shot down by enemy fighter.

Thank you all for your replies! Bärwalde is near Hoyerswerda, so I think this fits. Regarding the date, I think 11 April is more likely, because there was quite some enemy air activity over eastern Germany on that day. Allied Operations on 12 April were concentrated over Austria, Hungary and Yugoslavia.

It's interesting that this a/c still carried its Stammkennzeichen. Maybe it got caught on some kind of maintenance or delivery flight, as the area around Hoyerswerde doesn't correspend very well to IV/NJG3 base in Schleswig-Holstein...

Cheers,
Christian
