Unknown insturment face and II/JG 54 loss 9th Aug, 1944

Hello!

In an Estonian discussion forum was posted this photo of a German aircraft instrument face:
http://static2.album.ee/files/823/75...93825_dK2d.jpg

Is anyone able to identify it? I thought I know flying instruments but this one feels strange to me, text "kurve" and scale from 0 to 20. Just what is it?

One possible match for this loss is 9th August, 1944 from II/JG 54. Most probably with loss of life so there might be more data for this?

As for timing but likely not the location another possible match is the two losses of I/SG 5 in 7th August, 1944.

On the other hand that "kurve" possibly implying an autopilot would mean the aircraft was something bigger?

Thanking in advance,
Kari

In a loss list for IV/JG54 it shows Oblt. Rudolf Hofmann killed in combat on 9-8-44 flying Fw190A-8 731007, he shown as being in 6/JG54. I assume 6/54 were on attachment to IV/54, the list does not have a location of the combat,

Hello!

Does anyone have Summarische Verluste for 2./NAGr 5? And/or personnell losses for the same? August 1944 is the focus.

(NAGr 5 - whole unit - Summarische Verluste for the June-August 1944 would be interesting too).

Could the scale shown in the link above be part of some control knob for camera?

Cheers,
Kari

Hello, Kari

I have this information. A bit difficult to post here as the tables get messed up...

Hei Andreas!

I had checked the AHS Norway site and initially found summary losses only for 1./NAGr 5 for year 1945 (or so).

But last night I found there was lists for Stab., 1., 2. and 3.(!) /NAGr 5 (= all subunits). Did you add them now or had I missed them earlier? In any case THANK YOU a lot.

Hello!

Andreas. It seems you have one interesting Fw 190 loss for Aug 8th, 1944.

It is 100% from unit
Flzg.Überführ.G.1. You have the location as "Reppen". Can you check if spelling Reppin would fit? I suppose you have the original microfilms?

Reppin is the German language name for Räpina. Räpina is a small Estonian town on the shore of lake Peipus (or more exactly lake Pskov).

Cheers,
Kari

Hi, Kari!

The name written in the original record is clearly Reppen, which I believe is east of Leipzig.

My guess is that this aircraft was on a transfer from Halle(Saale).

Thank You, Andreas!

Not really the answer I wanted to hear but appreciated all the same.
