I know it is old news, so please bear with me if you have already seen this material (that I discovered only today). According to the above video, in the year 2003 a fishing boat raised from the sea outside of S. Vito lo Capo (Sicily) a Bf109G-4. During the recovery, the plane broke in two and the wings and forward part were lost in the water. The author of this video states that according to his researches, this aircraft was red 11, the mount of Herbert Lottere, 5/JG27, MIA on June 18, 1943. In the video, on the side of the fuselage a dark number "1" is clearly still visible. According to the commentary running together with this video, the sad remains of this fighter were left unattended in the open from the date of its recovery until the year 2008, when the "Sovrintendenza" (? what has the Italian Department of Antiquities to do with Messerschmitts?) took the whole lot away to an unknown destination. The actual whereabouts of this plane are unknown. Any ideas? Info on wnr, confirmation of the pilot's identity?
