A new Bf 109 G-10 (?), Augsburg 1945
Dear all,
I chanced on Panoramio (!) on this excellent shot taken 1945 in Augsburg showing the front part of what I would see as an Bf109G-10 (No K-4 features visible)... http://static.panora...al/24844998.jpg Note the starting crank lying on the right wing. The background is also most interesting: there is a Me410 rear fuselage lying on the left and, on the right background, the well known Bf109G-6 (or G-14 ?) standing on its nose. The latter is the subejct of an often published colour photograph. Glad to see it here in a wider surrouding. Cheers Marc |

Salut Franck,
You're most welcome! Actually, I scourge google by trying every possible combination with keywords like airfield 1945 Germany, or Nazi plane 1945, or simply Germany 1945... and sometimes, it does pay off even if it is a time consuming process... Cheers Marc |

Hello Marc,
Just got home and tried to open the above-mentioned photo but was unable to. Anyone else having problems? Steve Sheflin |

Steve, Rolf,
Here we go with the link (I opened it right now): http://static.panoramio.com/photos/o...l/24844998.jpg To be sure you access it, here is the pic uploaded. You will also find the well published colour shot of the Bf 109 G-6 here: http://historylink101.com/ww2_color/...9-PICT1762.jpg I upload it too. Cheers Marc |
Re: A new Bf 109 G-10 (?), Augsburg 1945
Thanks for the photo.
It is a G-14/AS (at least the nose is...). Two details: the round hatch of the cold weather starting device in the lower position (on the G-10 it was at the same level of the starting crank hole) and the six-lines stencil (faint but clearly visible on the lower side of the upper cowl) which BTW it is present also on the Croat G-14/AS "black 4" defectioned to Italy... http://win.150gct.it/public/veltro/Croat109G14AS.jpg ...and on at least one Italian (ANR) G-14/AS W.Nr.785039 coded "3-13" (see here the nose)... http://win.150gct.it/public/veltro/Pag_83.jpg Hope this helps |
Re: A new Bf 109 G-10 (?), Augsburg 1945
Thanks Ferdinando,
it sure helps! I also have the excellent publication of Jean-Claude Mermet, but, in the hurry I never manage to grab it before posting... Grazie mille per le Sue pregiate spiegazioni! Marc |
Re: A new Bf 109 G-10 (?), Augsburg 1945
Hallo Marc,
seems to be the Messerschmitt airfield at Augsburg-Haunstetten? Here´s a bit more info about this airfield with a nice pic of a bombed-out Bf 109 with factory code: http://www.markus-ohneiser.de/76997/79851.html The airfield was occupied 28, April 1945 Regards Roland |
