Hi all gents!
On 27 june 1944 II./ZG1 had a hard fight over Budapest, and lost many a/c with crews. Leva. 27-06-44, Bf 110 G-2, 2N+QP, 130087, Both crewmen wounded on combat mission. Pomatz, 18 Kms. north- west of Budapest. As a result, gruppe l;ost not less that 6 Bf110G-2's destroyed, and not less than two damaged. The worst thing was Hptm. Rudolf Wengner, expirienced ace, StaKa 5./ZG1 was shot down and killed in 2N+KN. Who were the opponents of II./ZG1 on that mission? Again P-51's of 15 AF? |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
Hello Evgeny!
I do have 307th Figher Squadron from the 31st Fighter Group fighting against what they identified as Me 410 near Viena ( Austria ) on the 26th June 1944. Capt Brown and his wingman fought againt the twin engined while the rest of 307th FS clashed against the Bf 109s. Capt BROWN claimed 3 x Me 410 and 1 x Bf 109 F/O JAY ( RAF?) claimed 2 x Me 410 Lt Main - 1 x Bf 109 ( apparently he was later shot down - do not know if MIA or KIA ) Lt Shipley and Lt Bradley shared a Bf 109 Lt Schanning claimed a LW trainer ( Maybe an Ar-96 or something else ?! Who knows ? ) DO NOT KNOW IF 52nd FG and 325th FG where in combat on this same mission... Yours ( hope it helped you somehow...) Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
Thank You very much!
As we have 6./ZG76 claim on that fight, it could be Me410's of II./ZG76 involved in fight. But does its gruppe losses known? Even if 307th slashed II./ZG76, then who smashed II./ZG1? |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
From what I do have, 6/ZG 76 took off from Königsberg around 09:10hs and some of their pilots landed at Jüterborg-West around 11:00hs.
Unfortunately I do NOT have their losses recorded for that day. Sorry! Yours Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
By the way, may I ask you and someone who may know, what was the flying endurance ( something around 03:00hs ) of the Me 410?
Yours Adriano |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
Ok. Checked other files on the other computer.
2 FS claimed 4 victories 4 FS claimed 3 victories 5 FS claimed 5 victories 95 FS claimed 9 victories 96 FS claimed 3 victories 97 FS claimed 2 victories 307 FS claimed 10 victories 308 FS claimed 3 victories 309 FS claimed 2 victories ALL official victories atributted to MTO Squadrons on that day ( 26th June 1944 ). NOW, we do have to sort out what kind of aircraft they claimed, where, times, etc... Yours Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
Just to make a correction:
307 FS claimed only 9 victories ( I read twice a line! ) sorry! and... when I wrote Lt Shipley, PLEASE do consider his name as 1/Lt Ernest Shipman Yours Adriano Baumgartner |
Re: 26 june 1944, Budapest, II./ZG1
Evgeny, you are probably looking for 27th July, not 26th. As I know on 26th II/ZG 1 had lost only four losses. On 27th both, 52nd FG and 31st FG were engaged with Bf 110.
