Thorney Island 18 August 1940

Been interviewing a former pilot of 235 Sqn flying Blenheims. Norman Smith recalls the squadron being scrambled and that he shot down a Junker 87. Yet looking at accounts for this day all I can see is that the Spitfires and Hurricanes where credited for the kills?

Then whilst in Bognor Regis last week I came across a local book in a second hand store entitled 'Memories of Bognor 1918 1950' in which it has the author in Chichester on 18 August 1940 during the afternoon witnessing a 'twin engine RAF plane shooting down a Stuka' whilst sheltering next to a policeman who said it was a Blenheim!

Any help would be grateful.

Your Sincerely

Andrew
