Unknown B-17 crash
1 Attachment(s)
The attached photo shows the remains of a B-17 which crashed in the southern part of the Netherlands in the fall of 1944 at an unknown date!
There are rumours that the crew baled out to safety and landed in friendly territory. Within the red circle may be parts of the squadron code. Is there anybody on the forum who can give me a hint? All info is most welcome. The photo was taken during the summer of 1945. Tia, Paul |
Re: Unknown B-17 crash
Am i right in thinking the aircraft is upside down in the photo?

Re: Unknown B-17 crash
In view of the position of the star the hull is upside down.

thanks, thats what i thought. however, i think the rear section is inverted but the forward section is the right way up. in the red box you can see the platform where the top turret gunner would stand. this is the right way up and in the yellow box is what i think is the co-pilots rear window.
i know this doesnt help with you question, im only trying to point out how confusing the photo is. |

Tsetse,
The only thing I can do is to agree on your remark about the confusing photo. Have all the wreckage thrown on one pile? pp |
Re: Unknown B-17 crash
Is there a more exact location known other than the "southern part of the Netherlands"?

Re: Unknown B-17 crash
All I know is that it should have been in the Tilburg-'s-Hertogenbosch area.
