Shot-up Hurricane P3065 DZ-G
Still researching battle damage pictures.
Found several very good JAMD pictures showing damage to the tail unit and fuselage of Hurricane P3065 coded DZ-G. It looks like a 20mm cannon-shell exploded in the tail, peppering the fuselage and wings (removed in one picture) with fragments. I am aware the a/c was repaired and flew again. Can anyone please tell me when the action resulting in the damage took place, and who the pilot was ? TIA for any assistance. BC |
Re: Shot-up Hurricane P3065 DZ-G
Hello BC,
I do not know if the incident was this one, but on 15th August 1940 I have a Sub/Lt. (A) H. W. Beggs as injured while with 151 Sqdn P3065. I think off hand that is was from FAA Aircraft 1939-45 (?) And in FCL vol 1 revised it has P3065 "G" Came down at Shorncliffe. A/c repaired. Shot down 1915 by Me109 off Dymchurch. Alex |

Many thanks Alex, I think that must be the incident. Pictures like this are often used but rarely with any background detail or the ultimate fate of the aircraft.
