O/T, but

Was the
enfield Mk V, "Jungle Carbine" issued to Australian troops during the war?

TIA

Though rifle lore is only a sideline of mine, I hope the following helps:

It does mention the No.5.

Although considered to be an excellent in concept, the Mk.5 development and trials were hampered by harsh recoil, which exceeded the tolerance levels of the average trooper, and the rifle itself suffered from a “wandering zero” problem. It would shoot reasonable groups, but not always in the same place from one day to the next. A number of manufacturing solutions were trialled to solve this, but the issue was never satisfactorily overcome.

It was not issued to the Australian Army until late 1946, and was used in small quantities during the Malayan Emergency in 1947. It was phased out shortly afterwards.

Ed, thanks for that link. The middle photo, in .303 CF is definitely mine. Mine is NRA Excellant, almost New.

Jim, thanks for that info. I can definitely attest to the recoil, including this past weekend. On a bench rest at 75 yards, it did a great group!
