Jagdgruppe West + JG 101 activity - 5 Mar 1944

Jagdgruppe West and JG 101 defended against a raid by 8th Air Force B-24s on Bergerac, Cognac, and other airfields in southwestern France on 5 March 1944. Does anyone have details of the activities of these two units? Lt. Chuck Yeager of the 357th FG was shot down by a Fw 190 near one of these airfields, evaded capture and reached Spain, but I have never turned up a claim for his P-51 -- that's one example of the info I could use.

Thanks in advance,

Don

It's time to stir the pot and let this one bubble to the top for a few minutes. I thought Yeager's name would prompt an answer -- I guess I'll repost on the "Allied" side.

Don, Yeager's victor was attacked by "Obie" O'Brien, shortly after Yeager went down (Obie claimed a damaged, later upgraded to probably destroyed). Merle Olmsted identified the pilot as Uffz. Irmfried Klotz, who bailed out but was killed when his parachute failed to deploy. My guess is that is the reason a claim for Yeager never was filed.

Thanks -- Klotz being shot down & killed would be a very good reason for him not to file a claim.
