Helmut Wettstein's career ?

dear friends,
I sent an answer few weeks ago regarding JG 54' s 8000th victory claimed (may be by Wettstein). so I try to ask my questions in a specific post (sorry for the members who already read it).

Regarding his career himself, what are the sources telling his background before his arrival to JG 54 (feb 43, date of his first victory ?) and after his surrender to the British in Denmark ? is he still alive ?

And regarding his score, I found 21 kills in Tony Wood's (outstanding !) work, and regular sources indicates 34 (I presume that the lacking kills were claimed in Courland in 1945, when I was not the major "preoccupation"). anybody could help ?
