Leutnant a.D Karl-Ludwig Johanssen

I've just learnt of the death of my friend and former Knight's Cross holder Karl-Ludwig Johanssen.

Karl-Ludwig was one of a small number of night fighter radar operators to be awarded the Knight's Cross. He was best known as Martin 'Tino' Becker's radar operator, and together they claimed 58 victories, although Karl-Ludwig was involved in a totol of 59 such claims.

He was a gentle giant of a man, and all that met him wil testify to his open and friendly manner.

Another loss to add to those of this year,

David.

Agree very much, Karl was very helpful to me with his keen insight to several missions he and Tino flew in 1945 with the Stab of IV./NJG 6. Also his thoughts on the two Ju 88G-6's that they flew as to arms and radar fits.

yes he will be missed
