10 May 1940 Ypenburg

In the early morning of 10 May 1940 operation Fall gelb started. One of the first targets were to knock out several Dutch airfields. One of them was Ypenburg between Delft/Rijswijk (near Den Hague).

Ypenburg was bombed by bomberplanes (HE111's and possiblu Ju.88's) nd straffed by several fighter planes, followed by airborne landings.

Can some help me out ??

I am looking for information about what formation of German units bombed and straffed Ypenburg in the early morning of 10 May 1940, and what were the losses during the attacking on Ypenburg.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Ypenburg had been attacked by He 111s of 1./KG4. There were many losses suffered by German bomber units attacking Dutch airfields in the morning of 10.05.40 so you must be more specific.

Re: 10 May 1940 Ypenburg

Hi,

in total some 22 He 111P of I./KG1 took off to attack airfields in Ypenburg 1./KG4), Eindhoven (3./KG4) and Gilze Rijn (2./KG4) so i think some 9-10 He 111Ps actually attacked Ypenburg. One He 111P of 1./KG4 crashed directly after take-off but no planes were lost over Ypenburg.

Re: 10 May 1940 Ypenburg

During the attack on Ypenburg Fokker D-21 and Douglas 8a aircraft took off. Some Fokkers managed to land on other fields, but the Douglas 8a aircraft that were able to take off were destroyed by the Luftwaffe. I have not been able to find out which unit(s) are responsible for destroying most of the Douglas 8a's. (see for some info in Dutch: http://home.deds.nl/~bhummel/gif/Douglas8A.html )

Any suggestions?

Thanks again, some source does mention that a HE111 crashed at Den Hoorn during the 10th of may (that is not far from Ypenburg).

Did the same KG that attacked Ypenburg also attack the Alexander barracks in Den Hague ?
