Hurricane shot down 18 June 1940
Hi guys
On 18 June 1940, a Hurricane being ferried to the Middle East was shot down near Louden, France, at about 10am by a fighter. The pilot survived. I can't find a German (or British) claim - did a French fighter make a claim for perhaps a Messerschmitt? Cheers Brian |

Hi Bertrand (nice to hear from you)
Could it be Loudun? Cheers Brian |

Loudun is between the towns of Tours and Poitiers about 300 kms from the Channel coast. I think it is very far from the British Hurricane !

Hi Bertrand
The planned route for the ferry was Cap Frehal-Nantes-Bordeaux-Castres-Marignane but changed to Bordeaux-Perpignan. As Maycock, the Hurricane pilot, boarded an RN destroyer at Bordeaux, I would assume that he was not too far from Bordeaux when he came down. Hope this helps. Cheers Brian |
