KG3 in Russia 1942

I'm looking for losses and damaged aircraft from KG3 serving in Russia from 30Jul-03Sep1942 serving in the Rzhev area. Also can anyone advise if there is a unit history on this unit for that period of the war in Russia. I believe they were equiped with Ju-88's during that time.

Mihael - try M.Holms webpage.

Number of losses, a/c, bases - all there.

An excellent Luftwaffe reference site, despite not being updated from May 2006.

KG 3 lost 5 Ju 88 A-4s over and around Rzhev on 30 and 31 July 1942. None in August, but several more were lost in that area during the first week of September. Details in our book:

deZeng, Henry L. IV and Douglas G. Stankey. Bomber Units of the Luftwaffe 1933-1945. 2 volumes. London: Ian Allan Publishing, 2007 and 2008). ISBNs (10) 1 903223 72 5 and (10) 1 903223 87 3.

Larry,
Does it give info on their bomber missions also?

Thanks Denes, Evgeny and Larry.

Re: KG3 in Russia 1942

Here is what the bombers were doing on 30 and 31 July 1942:

30.07.42: at 0600 hours, Soviet 29th, 30th and 31st Armies launched a powerful attack on Rzhev from the north, east and southeast. German AOK 9 was driven out of its forward positions and it was only with Luftwaffe air support and stubborn defensive fighting that the Russians were prevented from taking Rzhev, which was the anchor of Heeresgruppe Mitte’s northern flank. The Germans were prepared to expend thousands of men and hundreds of aircraft if necessary to prevent the loss of Rzhev. The city held but the Russians took Zubtsov to the southeast of Rzhev and broke through the front in the direction of Sychevka.

I am sure this is all available on the internet somewhere.

Larry, I'll be ordering volume 1. Which units will the new book be covering on the Stuka and attack units?
