Me 110, R4+EN

Hello,

Could somebody give me information concerning a Me 110 coded R4+EN :

- type and unit (I express the hypothesis it belonged to a NJG unit)
- if it crashed, date and place of its crash, identity and fate of the crewmen, base from where it took off for this last mission

Many thanks

Pierre

Re: Me 110, R4+EN

Hi!

The markings shown that the plane belonged to the 5./NJG2 (5th squadron of the 2nd Nightfighter Wing). The first two markings (R4) are the identification markings of the NJG2. After the balkenkreuz the first letter (E) shown, the staffel (squadron) number, in this case the E is the mark of the 5th squadron. The last N letter is the plane's own sign. The N letter show that the plane was the second in the 5th squadron.
The NJG2 mostly used Junkes Ju88s, the Me110s were rare in that nightfighter wing. You supposed to give more information about the plane.

Salute!

Dear RvB,

Almost good.
You are going wrong in the explanation of the letters after the 'Balkenkreuz'.
The first letter after the "Balkenkreuz' is the letter of the plane in the Staffel and the fourth letter is the the letter of the Staffel. The letter N stands for the 5.Staffel. Let me know if you need more explanation about these 4th letter.

Hi!

Thanks Jaap for the emendation!
You're right, the coloured E letter is the plane own sign.
Vainly I'm getting older:rolleyes:.

Hi Pierre,

Is your question based on a picture or something like that? I'm just curious, as the 5./NJG2 was based on Bergen and Leeuwarden airfield here in Holland.

Kind regards,
Hans Nauta
