Hallo again

Can't help with much, but surely the broken G-2/R-6 is coded VD+V?

Also it looks like an overrun airfield after German withdrawal from Stalingrad area?

Cheers
Stig

The second photo appears to faintly have the JG 3 "flying U" badge on the cowl, complete with red circle underneath. Unless I am just seeing things...
Kirschner's aircraft?

Hi

Documents to identify these aircraft should exist in former Soviet Union archives, as aircraft captured when an airfield was overrun was documented.

So we will just have to wait until the right document surfaces showing the correct combination of aircraft...

Andreas B

Andreas,

those pictures are definitely connected to the issue we are researching at the moment. For the exeption that they were taken on the airfield that was captured earlier than Rostov and Novocherkassk. I presume that it is Morosowskaja. According to documents up to 100 planes and airframes were captured there. Pictures of planes from JG3, Sch.G.1 and StG2 indicate the high possibility of this variant.
Another variants are:
Bolshyaja Rossoshka - 173 planes captured more or less intact. 150 planes more in dismantled or highly damaged condition.
Gumrak - 120 planes captured
Karpovka - 60 planes captured
Tazinskaja is of dismal possibility, as reported captured only 72 transport planes.

The planes as you can see from the previous case are reported in GQ as "von eigene truppe gesprengt" or damaged earlier due to various reasons, and were later abandoned.
Unfortunately, no breakdown for the planetypes and werknummers for this cases exists so far...

As far as i remember Vitaly Gorbach told that documents of 1st Aerial Army in TsAMO contains serial numbers of captured aircrafts.

I'm trying to reach IKFI now to get prints of those photos in my collection.

The entire VD+V_ sequence was assigned to Bf 109G-2s.
VD+VR was part of JG 3 in Dec. 1942.

Hello all,

The "schwarze 1" picture might have been taken at Pitomnik. On 14 January 1943 Frielinghaus landed with this Me 109 at Pitomnik. He had to change planes with Hans Grünberg. But during an engagement over the Don he had problems with his machine-guns and as a result he shot away 4/5 of the props. With great luck he managed to land at Pitomnik. Pictures seem to show no damage to the props.

Does anybody have more details..?

Best regards,
Rob
