Researching Gerhard Fieseler Werke III in Kassel

I am researching the Gerhard Fieseler Werke II and III air plane factorys in Kassel Germany, in the Waldau area. The #3 factory was a small building at the Kassel-Waldau Air field, and the #2 was a couple of larger buildings at a close by old factory also in Waldau.

I am trying to locate some pictures from the ground, or of inside of these buildings, with any aircraft being built, or other related pictures. I have a couple pictures from the air, but nothing else.

I was in the US Army, and stationed in Kassel in the early 1960s, and worked in one of the #3 factory buildings, but did not know any of the history then.

I was in Mannheim about 5 years before you were in Kassel. I am sure of one source for your photo needs but you will probably have to deal with the U.S. National Archives in WashDC to get them. The U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey would have completed a comprehensive study of the Fieseler plant at:
Kassel-Waldau (GER) (51 17 00 N – 09 30 00 E)
General: Einsatzhafen I in Hesse 5 km SSE of Kassel. Also an Industriehafen of the Fieseler aircraft firm. Grass surface.

The study would have been accompanied by numerous photos, some of which probably included the wartime assembly line there. If you e-mail or call the Photographic Division of the National Archives they should be able to help. Other sources would be in Germany, e.g. the Bundesarchiv in Koblenz, the Kassel Stadtarchiv, the Hessische Stattsarchiv, etc.

check public record office in Kew. I think that they have a report about the bombing of the factory. the report is from 1945 and contains pictures from the ground. Good luck with your research

Thanks for the tips. I just sent them a email, and hope they have some pictures. I have nothing but good memories of my 3 years in Kassel. I was assigned at Rothwseten, but worked at Waldau as a Mechanic. I do not know of any of the guys that were there, that did not enjoy there time in Kassel. I have been working on a web page about my time in the Army, and have a section on Kassel/Waldau.

Do they still sell beer in the Flip Top bottles?

When I shipped my car home from Germany, I put 2 cases of beer in the trunk. When I picked in up in NJ, they were all empty, but had a thank you note in the case. :)

Re: Researching Gerhard Fieseler Werke III in Kassel

Thanks. It has been a slow project, started when my Grandson asked me where I was stationed in the Army. I was at so many places over a 22 year time frame, I had trouble remembering when I was at some. He asked if I could make a simple web page, and add some pictures of the places, if I had any. Well, it has grown much bigger than planed, but I get pictures from guys that were at the same places, and add to it all the time.

It keeps my brain working any way. Between it, any my 2 hobbies of Ham Radio, and building Hot Rods, I am never bored. :)

Thanks Again,
Bruce
