Lt Rupp 7./JG 54 6 November 1942
On 6 November 1942 Lt Friedrich Rupp was shot down during an air battle against Soviet Airacobra and belly-landed his Bf 109 G-2 WNr 10420 behind enemy lines. He evaded capture and returned to his unit.
The place of his loss is listed as "Beresnonuessa" but I can't find a place in Russia bearing this name (or a "Russianized" version, like Bereznonuesa). This loss took probably place in the general area of Demjansk. If anybody can identify the location of this loss I will be interested. Thanks in advance |
Re: Lt Rupp 7./JG 54 6 November 1942
Laurent,
Some of the other losses for 7/JG54 in the Dec-Jan ( I do not know their movements) period mention Velikje Luki. On the Google maps to the east is a place called Velikopol'e and under the name is a longer spelling starting with B which has some of the letters of the location you say. In the Luftwaffe QM's list it shows 10420 as 20% was it recovered by the Germans? I see that Lt.Rupp fell in combat attacking B-17's on 15-5-43 his body washed ashore Cuxhaven on 19-6-43, the source shows him as holding the RK with 50 victories, Regards Brian Bines |
Re: Lt Rupp 7./JG 54 6 November 1942
Thanks Brian,
The "B" you see on Google Maps is the Russian sign for the sound "V", and usually German use phonetic to write down places (in Russia or other places). But I had not que QM list for this loss and this 20% damage really changes the view I had from this incident. By this date, this score meaning that the aircraft was recovered will indicate that it actually didn't fall in enemy lines, as indicated on www.airaces.cz, but in German-held territory, so it extends the area to check. |
