Re: Airmen buried at Cambridge Cemetery

Hi
Thanks for posting the full details.
There is no particular reason other than that I already have photographs of the headstones with respect to these men. I have visited the cemetery a number of times and I would very much like to put something together concerning an airmen who is buried there. If anyone has any other pictures of airmen who rest there then I would also be interested in those.

Thanks again

Steve

Ok Steve, do you know if there is a possibility to know about the date of the funeral ? Is there a place in Cambridge where we can trace some informations about this ??

JB560 was delivered to 100 Sqdn ex 460 Sqdn 27 Nov 43. When lost this aircraft was on its second operation and had a total of 19 hours. JB560 was one of four 100 Sqdn Lancasters lost during this operation. See JB596; JB674; JB678 Airborne 1613 16 Dec 43 from Grimsby. Crashed on return in bad weather near Kelstern airfield, Lincolnshire. W/C Holford and WO2 Wareham are buried in Cambridge City Cemetery; the others were taken back to their home towns. W/C Holford was 100 Sqdn Commanding Officer.

Of the other losses suffered that night (apart from their C. O.) JB674 collided in midair with another 100 Sqdn Lancaster (JB678), both Lancasters falling at 0040 17 Dec 43 near Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Three are buried in Cambridge City Cemetery.

A terrible night for this specialist Squadron.

All I can suggest here Alain is to contact the Commonwealth War Graves Commission direct or you could try Cambridge City Council via this link http://www.cambridge.gov.uk/ccm/cont...ials.en?page=2
Hope this helps.
