Allied aircrafts down in VEldhoven Holland.

I spoke to an eye witness last night about some crashes in the town of Veldhoven Holland. (near fliegerhorst Eindhoven)
He drew a map for me with the crash locations and asked me if I could find out more about these crashes.

I hope people here can help.

This is what I found:

42-09-17 0115 Veldhoven (in Zwembad) Wellington III BJ640 12OTU F/Lt M.B.Mallet

44-06-08 1120 Veldhoven (Oude Kerkhof) P-51-F5B 42-67366 7PG/27 PS Capt. C.G. Cassaday

Thanks,
Ray

Re: Allied aircrafts down in VEldhoven Holland.

Ray,

A little correction: an F-5B was the photo reconnaissance version of a P-38 and not a P-51 (must be a typo on the nimh.nl website..!).
Even so, Capt Cassaday was KIA and is now buried at Margraten. He was from Iowa.
That same day another F-5B was lost at neighboring Eindhoven, 42-12981.

There's a picture of Cassaday here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24554019@N06/3685557522/

Groet,

Leendert

The old men pointed me a little in the direction of the typo. He said it was a double tailed airplane.

The townfolk talked about a coloured pilot but I guess after seeing the photo he was probably badly burnt.

Thanks for the info.
