The list I have shows Gef. Karl Wiegand shot down and killed near Charleville attacking four-engined bombers,

Good evening,
Yes i have Karl Wiegand too.
He was born the 09th March 1924 in HANNOVER KLEEFELD and buried at LOMMEL. Only 20 years old....

Hello gentleman ,

If you check the Volksbund site , you will find that Fw Wiegand Karl 09/03/1923 Hannover was killed on 12/04/1944 but they give as place of lost Stoumont Belgium.
Wiegand was buried at Brustem near St-Trond airfield , so if he was lost over France why would he be buried in Belgium. A few years ago this question was put up on this forum and looking at that i " think " that he was on board of that Ju-52 who crashed at Stoumont on 29/01/1944.
Unfortenally we can check when he was buried at Brustem.

The NVM lists him as being the pilot of said FW 190 lost on 12 Apr 44; nothing at all to do with any Ju 52 lost nearly 3 months earlier. There are no other JG 2 casualties listed on 29 Jan 44 lost in a Ju 52

Salut Alain!

I can confirm you that a German fighter (most probably Wiegand) crashed in Weris at the "lieu-dit" 'Aux Broux'. The pilot was killed and the scene have impressed so much a young boy, at that time, as he told me.

Best regards and many happy landings for 2010!

Nicolas

The "accurate" place is given as Houx 4 km N. Dinant, the Wn is troublesome given as 57578 PROB. 157578, Willand as Wiegand is given,
time of crash 13h15

....

Rémi

Is there anythingelse known about the Ju52 ??? Is the one from KG6 ??

Hello Rémi,

I assume you are not drunk! In fact, you are right to point out the case of Willand which is quite problematic.
In various documents, it is said he crashed near Houx, Belgium "(Aufschlag bei Houx (Dinant))". In fact, he was rightly buried in Houx but not lost in that area as stated. He seems to have crashed near Justine (Rethel) in France as it appears in "La Guerre aérienne au-dessus du département des Ardennes Vol. 2" by French researcher Pierre Roger but quoted buried at Noyers-Pont-Maugis cemetery. So the truth is between that! Crashed in France but buried in Belgium?
Moreover the WNr. I have for Willand is 157378, so it adds to the confusion!

The Ju 52 lost on the 29/01/44 near Stoumont carried personal from KG 6 and KG 77 (for rest and releave?). A casualty is Gefr. Karl WIEGAND from 12./JG 6(sic?), probably the man quoted by Alain. Rémi, can you confirm his ID and unit (most probably KG 6)?

Best regards

Nicolas
