Seeking ID of KG26? abandoned on surface of Norwegian lake?
Hello,
Can anyone ID this He111, possibly 1H+BH of 1./KG26, abandoned on the surface of the ice on a melting lake in Norway during the spring of 1940? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_3791wt_1131 Thanks, |

Hi Larry,
I have seen pics of this He 111 H-4 before - 1H+BM - on Norwegian picture website ( by Tore Eggen - but am unable to remember where exactly, as my old grey celles seem not to be working properly at this very moment, likely due to much good food ...). If I remember correctly it force landed near mouth of river and was stuck in mud on high tide on 14.05.1940. Found it here too: http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/stjordal.html Merry Christmas ed |

Hi
Yes - Tore Eggan got a few pictures of this He111. According to witnesses it was taking off towards the south that day. The KTB for Fl.H.Kdtr. Vaernes starts 27.6.1940 - so no info there. |

Hi.
The photo on the website of Kjell Sørensen gives better information than the others, because you can see the distinct shape of the Skatval ridge in the background. In fact the photographer must have been standing on the river bank just a few hundred meters from where I grew up on the Hell (Yes, you english speakers, I literally grew up in Hell....) side of the river. http://www.bluesinhell.no/hell_station.html show a few nice photos of the train station at Hell, including the nicest of the signs... http://www.bluesinhell.no/hell_station.html in the Norwegian old form of writing the name of the part of the station handling luggage and other larger items to be shipped was 'Gods Expedition'.... not that strange that tourists loved to take photos of us children stroking the black family cat seated on the stairs outside 'Hell Station - Gods Expedition' !!! I digress!! The loss record as it appear in the GenQu list: http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=139897 Regards, Andreas B |
