Does anybody have information about P-51 D 44-14143 D7-D 503rd FS 339FG.
Do any photos of this Mustang exist?

Look on the left side for the serial number. This aircraft was lost in a mid-air collision.

Thank you for your help! That's already some very helfpul information.

It would be nice if there exists a photo of this particular P-51. Probably the entry in the database is based on an accident report rather than a photo, however.

44-14143 P-51D 503 D7-D Crump, Lt. Alan F. Lost 6 Nov 44 in mid-air collision with 44-14898, YF-J, of 2SF, Capt. Ziegler.

Jim Starnes, Group Historian, says that the pilot was a very late replacement. He had not been with the unit long enough ever for a Group PR picture to have been taken. He was the unit's only West Point Grad. No pictures exist per Starnes of D7-D sorry to say. His death was as a result of a training mission, hence no mention in the Mission Summaries

Hello,

Meanwhile, I received Alan Crump's log book. According to his logbook he joned 503rd FS on September 8 1944 in Goxhill. His last entry was on September 30 flying a P-51D from Fowlmere. It is strange that it ends here when he was killed only in November. There is a flight of 3.3 hours September 11 1944 that could have been an escort mission. The other flights were between 1 and 2 hours.

Does anybody have a confirmation that Crump flew a combat mission?
