Waldemar Felgenhauer RKT

I am trying to ascertain the final flying appointment held by Aufklarungsflieger Hauptmann Waldermar Felgenhauer?

All help will be very well received indeed.

Regards Richard.

Here are a few quick facts (and photo) on F that you may already have:

Felgenhauer, Waldemar Oberleutnant 2.(F)/Aufklärungsgruppe 123
RK 14 01 42
Flugzeugfuhrer (pilot)

not sure if he was a Staffelkapitan but most likely he was.

Wir haben diese:

FELGENHAUER, Waldemar. (DOB: 09.02.14 in Rastatt/Baden). (R). 14.01.42 Oblt., awarded Ritterkreuz, 2.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 123. 01.03.42 promo to Hptm. 02.45 Hptm., appt Staka 2.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 122 (to 04.45). (n.d.) retired from the Bundeswehr as a Hptm. †16.11.63 in Würzburg.

So, it appears his final assignment is in dispute. Is it 122, or 123 as Jeremy states?

Gents

Thank you very much indeed for your respective input.

Jeremy, can I take it that you listed 2.(F)/Aufklärungsgruppe 123 as the unit he was serving with on receipt of his Ritterkreuz?

If this is the case then it would appear that as Larry alludes to, that his final flying assignment was indeed 2.(F)/Aufkl.Gr. 122, especially taking into consideration the dates being so close to the end of the war.

Thanks again.

Regards Richard.

Re: Waldemar Felgenhauer RKT

Richard,

That is correct 2.(F)/Aufklärungsgruppe 123 was the unit he served with at the time of his Knights Cross awarding.

You might want to also try Andy Mitchell's excellent site which deals primarily with Aufklärungsgruppe 122

Here are the last 6 months of the Staffel, which was hard-pressed to keep busy due to the catastrophic fuel situation. Andy M. may have some additional details on his site as Jeremy said:

October – December 1944: flew infrequent routine missions that rarely exceeded 5 per week; the few losses during October and November were due to non-operational crashes and accidents.
1 December 1944: Staffel reported 7 Me 410 A-3/B-3 on strength.
10 December 1944: Me 410 B-3 (F6+MK) shot down by P-47s near Mariana Mantovana, 100%, 2 KIA.
29 December 1944: Me 410 B-3 (F6+GK) FTR - probably shot down by night fighters near Ancona, 100%, 2 KIA.
8 February 1945: Me 410 B-3 (F6+KK) shot down by Spitfires east of Comacchio while flying slowly at low level along the coastal highway, 100%, 2 K1A.
23 February 1945: Me 410 B-3 (F6+NK) shot down by P-47s 24 km south of Ghedi following a recce along the front lines south and west of Parma, 100%, 2 K1A.
10 March 1945: Me 410 A-3 shot up and damaged (50%) during a low-level Allied attack on Ghedi.
14 March 1945: Staffel ordered disbanded this date, but this was not put into effect until several weeks later.[1]
20 March 1945: flew its last operational sortie this date - No. 3,326.[2]
4 April 1945: disbanded this date at Ghedi II.[3]

He is listed as Stkptn. of 2.(F)/122 on a list over all Fern and Nah-Aufklärungsverbände, dated 6. march 1945, from Gen. d. Aufklärungsflieger.
