Hptm Franz Wieting

The above officer was a RK-holder and St Kap of 6/KG 30 killed 20 kms north of Saloniki 29 Jun 41; does any one have the details of how he died and with whom?

Thanks Remi. Behrendt was his normal Beobachter but this now puzzles in that he must have moved from the staff of X Fliegerkorps to 6/KG 30 and then back again

Re: Hptm Franz Wieting

It seems that the II.KG30 stayed within X.FKps till end of may 41 but not sure if losses are considered that they fought , we could find III. on Salu but not II.Group
After this date no spurs of KG30 in the med front

II/KG 30 was with IX Fliegerkorps at Gilze Rijen, moved to Eindhoven in Mar 41, back to Gilze Rijen following month and then to Luftflotte 5 in May 41. III/KG 30 went to X Fliegerkorps in Feb 41

Here is what we have on this fellow:

WIETING, Franz.
(DOB: 26.06.11 in Kiel).
01.08.39 Oblt., in A./Fl.Ausb.Rgt. 33.
19.06.40 Oblt. in 6./KG 30, awarded the Ritterkreuz for noteworthy success against enemy warships and shipping in the North Sea.
†29.06.41 Hptm., in plane crash during a flight over Bulgaria; other sources place the crash site just north of Salonika/Greece.

I have checked Kracker, but he has nothing on this chap.

We hope that this helps.

Re: Hptm Franz Wieting

Another note I have says he was the St Kap of the Führungskette or the Stab of X Fliegerkorps but whether that was before or after his time with 6/KG 30, I am interested to know! His place of death is recorded in the German War Graves site as 20 kms north of Saloniki and I believe he is buried in Albania
