14 July 44 : Cadillac operation / 2 B-17 on beach-head
Hi,
Historian Roger A. Freeman indicates in page 293 of his famous book : Mighty Eighth War Diary, that 2 B-17 "landed beah-head after mission" (Cadillac mission / 14 July 44 over central occupied France for French underground units). Can we know which B-17 landed there on way out towards England ? units, reasons ... Thank you Bye Phil. |

I would check on the 94th BG. That was the Group hit by German fighters, so it may have had a combat-damaged aircraft that needed to make an emergency landing.

Phil,
At least one B-17 was of 447th BG with Lt Ryder. See http://www.447bg.com/OpCharts.pdf and scroll down to the mission of 14 July 1944. It gives no exact location. I found no direct match (serial) with the aircaft data on the 447th BG website. Regards, Leendert |
