Remi thanks but do you have a unit apart from Rechlin? I have a photo, Wk Nr is visible as are 3 kill markings but nothing else apart from national markings are blackened

Re: Ju 88 A Identity

Chris: I presume you are referring to same photo as printed in Kampfflieger Vol.2 P.126 where this is stated in caption as "A-4" (sic). As already posted abowe as A-5, this actually was one of 130 Ju 88 A-1īs produced and delivered by ATG in late 1939 to first half of 1940. This plane was f.e. flown by ATG test pilot Rolf Baltabol at Leipzig on 26.05.40 - so I presume photo (with blacked out markings) is likely taken after the Luftwaffe shifted to Night Attacks (in autumn 1940). All surviving A-1īs were upgraded to A-5īs (longer wings that included improved wing-anti-ice heating) and this process starting from autumn 1940 - but in this photo this can not be seen - however it appears having great deal of Grey (RLM 02) overspray. Presumably this was later also fitted with twin-rear guns (from 1941). I have not found any unit assignments for this plane between 1940 to 1943. Finally I think these are not īkillī markers but mission markers.

Best regards

Re: Ju 88 A Identity

According to the VDK, the correct name of the FF in my previous post is Scholten:
Name: Scholten
Firstname: Hans
Rank: Unteroffizier
DOB: 14.08.1921
Plave of birth: Essen
Date killed: 08.01.1944

Hans Scholten is resting at the german war cemetery in Essen-Parkfriedhof (Bundesrepublik Deutschland) .
Place: Feld 26 Grab 16a

Rudi.
