Re: KuFlGr 406 losses

I have the following

Three Ju88A of I./KG 30 attacked without success a convoy off Yorkshire and reported it. Nine He115 of 1./KüFlGr 406 were sent in this area but met around 15h00 (German time) two Spitfire of 72 Sqn and then 6 Hurricane of 46 Sqn. Seven victories were claimed by the RAF pilots, two by 72 Sqn and 5 by 46 Sqn. Four seaplanes were really shot down, 5 German aircrew killed and the other captured by the British, except one crew that was interned in Denmark.

The He115B S4+EH (Wnr 0002093) was shot down into the sea 5 miles east of Spurn Head. Its three crew (Oblt zur See Heinz Schlicht, Lt Fritz Meyer and Uffz Bernhard Wessels) were all killed and their bodies were later washed ashore and buried at Happisburgh on November 2.

The He115B S4+GH (WNr. 0001 887) was shot down into the Wash. Its three crew (Oblt zur See G Reimann, Uffz H Schultze and Fw R Findersen (injured)) all survived and were captured. The plane sank in the sea.

The He115B WNr. 0001 852 crashed in the sea in an unknown area. Oblt. Peinemann and the two other crew were all killed.

The He115B WNr. 0001 876 (or 0001 883) ditched in an unknown (to me) area near a Danish ship. Two crew (navigator Leutnant Gottfried A. A. Lenz and pilot Unteroffizier Peter Grossgarts) were interned in Denmark and claimed to be alone aboard.
