Woodley Airfield,Berkshire

A bit of a long shot BUT.

There was at least one Luftwaffe attack on Woodley in about 1940/41.
I was at school near the airfield.

There was also an incendiary raid on some woods in Woodley.

Does anyone have any details of these incidents?

Woodley was attacked on August 17th 1940 as well as September, October 1940. On the August raid; They machine gunned the local roads, close to the aerodrome: Six bombs were dropped at 1505 hours.
Machine gunned Crockhamwell Road, Butts Hill Road, Loddon Bridge Road, Sandford Lane, Headley Road, Headley Road East. A number of people were injuried.

Many thanks for that Andy.

We watched one machine gun attack,I think on a Sunday morning, from Crockhamwell Road. The a/c flew parallel to Loddon Bridge Road towards the airfield from the Wokingham Road area. There were no hits on Crockhamwell Road.

I think the a/c was an Me 109. Any details of the Unit involved?
