Ar-196 and Do-24 from Crete??

Hi,

Have some photos showing Ar-196 and Do-24 during flight, probably taken at the coast of Crete (south-Crete for the Do-24??).

As far as I can see the single Ar-196 bears the code + LK, another Ar-196 shows D1+ (at harbour) and the multiple Ar-196 bears D1+E, ?+A and ?+K and the Do-24 seems to bear K6+JF.

Can someone say anything about where these planes were stationed, what units and any documentation about their fate later in the war ??

PS! All the planes wears the white band on their fuselages.

I'll try to add some scans soon.

Warmest regards,
Jagdkomm.

Jagdkommando...

The 'D1' code belonged to Aufkl.Gr.126 (See) and later became Seeaukfkl.Gr.127 in mid 1943.

'K6' was the parent code for Kü.Fl.Gr.406 from November 1939. 'K6' with Staffel letter 'M' at the end of the code was used for 1./Kü.Fl.Gr.906 from mid 1943.

Re: Ar-196 and Do-24 from Crete??

The Do 24 is most likely Do 24T-3 W.Nr. 3236 with Stammkennzeichen KO+JF. This aircraft arrived at LZ Amt Travemünde from Aviolanda 06.08.43 and was allocated to 9. Seenotstaffel. On 19.09.43 the aircraft was re-allocated from 9. to 7. Seenotstaffel at Athen-Phaleron seaplane station. Lost 100% on 27.11.43 at Kolovadi Bay on the Island of Samos.

Aircraft from both 7. Seenotstaffel and S.A.Gr. 126 operated out from Suda Bay seaplane station on Crete.
